English Premier League club Liverpool is in talks with the billionaire owners of an Indian Premier League cricket team that could lead to a massive investment and an eventual buy-out. Representatives of the GMR group, who run the Delhi Daredevils IPL side, were guests at last week's clash with Arsenal. GMR chairman Grandhi Mallikarjun Rao is worth an estimated 4.2 billion pounds and the senior official he sent to Liverpool in midweek is known to be a supporter of the club, News of the World reported.
Hicks started the talks initially with a view to securing a sponsorship deal, but Bangalore-based GMR have made no secret of their desire to branch out into other sports. Rao (58) made his millions in the airport and construction industry and recently formed a subsidiary company to invest in sport, with English football considered the most attractive. A Liverpool source said: "The GMR group were invited by Hicks and their representative watched the Arsenal match in the directors' box with Hicks' son Tommy. It was quite clear the representative was a fan. "When you look at the company's commitment to sport they're exactly the type of partner Tom would be looking for". Liverpool's American owners have been scouring the globe for finance to stave off the threat of having to sell the club on the cheap in July.

Liverpool Outplayed ManU
Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool's 2-1 win against Manchester United can help the Reds mount a serious title challenge.
Carlos Tevez put United ahead early on at Anfield. But after a torrid opening period, Liverpool were level with a Wes Brown own goal before Liverpool dominated the second half and Ryan Babbel grabbed a priceless win with 13 minutes left.
"It (the win) gives us belief and confidence because we've beaten the best team in Europe," said Liverpool's stand-in captain."It gives us the belief that we can beat anyone in the league."We hope we can now push on for the rest of the season. It should spur us on, because we've not been playing too well. That is the best we've played."It also gives us a bit of breathing space between us and United, and top is where a club like Liverpool should be," the former England international added.
Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez was equally delighted with the win, his first against United since taking over at Anfield in 2004."It was good for the confidence of the players," explained the Spaniard."At half-time we were talking about having confidence and determination going forwards - and in the second half we were the best team."We showed quality and character to come back, and the understanding of Robbie Keane and Dirk Kuyt was very good. Their pressing was really important for the rest of the team."
