Salem is one of the famous District in TamilNadu. It's famous for Mangoes.It's also called Mango city. It is exported to many places from here. Most of the lands used for cultivation. One of the tourist spot in Salem is Yercaud. It is also called poor mans Ooty. Since it cover poor as well as rich. It is also being attracted by foreigners. There is a famous lake and cave temple. Every year flower exhibition is being conducted here.
A famous Dam called Mettur Dam is there in salem. It is located between two mountains. Kaveri river gives water throughout the year. The Dam built across the Kaveri. It provides water for both drinking and cultivation.
There is a steel factory which is one of the biggest in TamilNadu.
